George R. Bongert, age 76, of Oshkosh, died Friday March 6, 2026 at Aurora Medical Center. He was born on February 20, 1950, in Oshkosh, a son of George and Esther (Jensen) Bongert.
George was a farmer, a truck driver, a jack-of-all-trades. George was good at making new friends and possessed tremendous talent as a welder and mechanic. He had an interest in old tractors, particularly International Harvester. George did an incredible job of converting an old gas engine Farmall to diesel power. He had a beautiful singing voice and enjoyed adventures around the Midwest as a truck driver. For many years he volunteered at King Veterans Home Marine Corps League. George struggled with addiction for many years but was sober for the last 20 years of his life. He is survived by his children Brian(Leonore) Bongert, Brenda(Mike) Beck, Bonnie(Pete) Beaumia, Lacey(Lance Behling) Bongert, grandchildren Brandon Beck, Autumn Beck, Dominik Sperberg, Audra Sperberg, step-grandchildren Alex Beaumia, Peter R. Beaumia, his brother Roger(Sylvia) Bongert, his sister Nancy(Steve Van Schyndel) Bongert, the mother of his children Marge Jones, nieces, nephews, cousins, his companion Midnight the cat, and eleven 4-legged grandkids. He is preceded in death by his parents and several cousins. A memorial visitation will be held on Friday March 13, 2026 from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. at Konrad-Behlman Funeral Homes-Westside. A sharing of stories from the family will be held at 6 p.m. The family would like to extend a thank you to the staff at Aurora ICU for their care of George in his final hours.
