George Bunnell Obituary

George Bunnell
George "Bill" Bunnell respected and loved Hamden Scout leader passed away on December 8, 2025. Bill, as he was called by friends, was a lifelong resident of Hamden and graduated from Hamden High School. He went on to serve in the US Air Force and the Connecticut National Guard. But what was most important to Bill was the Boy Scouts he served for nearly 3 generations. Their tributes through the years are a testament to the role model, mentor, and friend he continued to be as they met their life successes and struggles. Bill was recognized by the Quinnipiac Council of Boy Scouts with numerous awards over the years. More recently, Camp Sequassen opened the Bill Bunnell Family Cabins in his honor. An avid hiker and camper himself, Bill's Hamden troop 8/ 608 frequented the Appalachian Trail and state parks. As a young man, Bill had been part of laying out some of the trails at Sleeping Giant State Park. He also enjoyed his own cabin in the Berkshires in Massachusetts. A lifelong learner, Bill, at 90, was quite a history book when it came to the New Haven area, Boy Scouts and the US, especially World War II. Basically, a quiet man, Bill loved to tell stories which always included laughter. He will be greatly missed, but his legacy will continue on. Bill was a special uncle to six nieces and nephews and several great and grand nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Kathleen (Enscoe) and George W. Bunnell Sr. as well as two brothers David and John Bunnell. He leaves his sister, Ann B. Lynch of Branford and two sisters in law, Diane Bunnell of Saskatchewan, Canada and Barbara Bunnell-DeFlumeri of West Haven, Connecticut. As a lifelong communicant of Saint Rita's Church, 1620 Whitney Ave., Hamden, a Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:00 a.m., January 10, 2026. All are invited to attend, and it will be followed by a celebration of life. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Bill's name to Camp Sequassen, 791 W. Hill Rd., New Hartford, CT 06057. Personal tributes can be left on the Sisk Brothers Funeral Home website.

Bill, you helped me choose a good path and build confidence in myself as a scout in Troop 8. Thanks and may you rest in peace. Condolences to Ann and the rest of your family. Dave Lavorgna

This is a late message. I was in scouts with Bill in troop 3 in Whitneyville Congregation Church. We also became Scoutmasters of different troop in Hamden. We did a lot of camping and hiking. Bill was a great friend and a fun person to be with. RIP Bill
