George Wayne Burks

George Wayne Burks, a beloved husband, brother, and friend, passed away on November 8, 2025, in Little Rock, Arkansas. Born on August 24, 1950, in Monticello, Arkansas, George's journey was marked by unwavering dedication, love, and a commitment to those he held dear.

For an impressive 39 years, George worked as a line haul manager for ABF, a career that not only encompassed his professional life but also embodied his strong work ethic and dedication. His time on the road was filled with adventures, often shared with his beloved wife Pam. Together, they traveled across the country, creating lasting memories that would always bring warmth to their hearts.

Education was an important part of George's life. He graduated from Drew Central High in Monticello and furthered his studies at the University of Arkansas Monticello. He loved history and his thirst for knowledge was evident, and he cherished the experiences and friendships he built along the way.  He was a dedicated and faithful prayer warrior at Landmark Missionary Baptist Church of Rose City, North Little Rock, Arkansas.

Deeply patriotic, George served as a sergeant in the Army during the Vietnam War, where he was honored with several commendations—including the National Defense Service Medal and the Army Commendation Medal. His military service was a proud aspect of his identity, and he was forever changed by his experiences.

George was known for his gentle demeanor, ready laughter, and his famous saying, “long story short,” which often brought a touch of humor to everyday conversations. He was a friend to many, a mentor to some, and always had a kind word or encouraging thought to share. His hobbies included fishing, golfing, and cheering on his favorite team, the Razorbacks, embodying the spirit of camaraderie and joy both on and off the field.

In addition to his professional and military achievements, George cherished his family deeply. He is survived by his loving wife, Pam Burks, his sister, Barbara Burks Posey (Charles), and a vibrant family that includes several nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind his sister and brother-in-laws, a cherished mother-in-law, and his faithful dog, Millie. He was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert Hampton Burks and Mildred Louise Burks, who instilled in him the values of love and kindness that he carried throughout his life.

As we gather to remember George, let us celebrate a life that was well-lived—a life touched by faith, family, and friendship. He will be remembered fondly for his unwavering spirit and the countless ways he enriched the lives of those around him. May his memory inspire us to embrace our loved ones and share the joyous moments of life, just as he did.

Visitors are invited to join the family for a visitation on November 17, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Smith Family Funeral Home in Little Rock, before a funeral service that will take place on the same day at 11:00 AM. Subsequent to the service, he will be laid to rest at the Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery, North Little Rock, Arkansas, on November 17, 2025, at 1:00 PM.
