George Leonard Byrum Jr.

CHARLOTTE - George Leonard Byrum, Jr., 70, of Charlotte, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on December 15, 2025. He was born on November 22, 1955, in Charlotte to the late Clara Mae Knox Byrum and George Leonard Byrum.

George was a gentle and steady presence to those who knew him. He found deep joy in simple, meaningful things-warm days at the beach, especially the treasured times spent at Garden City Beach, the familiar comfort of country music, and the fellowship of his church family. These were the places and sounds that brought him peace and a sense of belonging.

One of George's greatest acts of love was his steadfast devotion to caring for his mother during her time at The Sharon. He gave of himself freely, with patience, loyalty, and quiet strength, honoring her with both his presence and his heart.

George was also profoundly proud of his 20 years of sobriety, a milestone that reflected his determination, faith, and commitment to living a life of purpose and integrity. His journey was a testament to perseverance and hope, and it inspired those around him more than he likely ever realized.

He is survived by his loving siblings: his sister, Belinda Bush and her husband, Tom, of Florida; his brother, Wade Byrum and his wife, June, of Wake Forest; and his brother, Raymond Byrum and his wife, Dena, of Georgia. He also leaves behind nieces and nephews who will remember him with affection and respect.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 20, 2025, at Sedgefield Church, 2830 Dorchester Place, Charlotte, followed by a reception. George will be laid to rest at Bethel Presbyterian Church Cemetery.

George will be remembered for his quiet faith, his loyalty to family, and the calm, steady love he shared with those around him. His life, though modest in its telling, was rich in meaning and devotion, and he will be dearly missed.
