George J. Cano, Jr passed away peacefully in his sleep on June 30, 2024 in Fairwood, WA at the age of 66. George was born and raised in Seattle, WA where he was the 2nd eldest amongst 4 children (Terri, Lorri, David) and is preceded in death by his parents George Sr and Juanita Cano.
Georgie grew up in the High Point neighborhood of West Seattle attending St. George's Catholic School and later Our Lady of Guadalupe School. In the fall of 1974 at Chief Sealth HS, George's eye was caught by a cheerleader and track star, Charlene Henry. High school sweethearts, George and Charlene spent over 49 years together and raised three wonderful children- Issac Dean, Rachel Ann and Chayna Marie.
After High School, George enlisted into the US Navy where he spent 4 years overseas aboard the USS McCoy serving his country. Upon his honorable discharge in 1980, he returned to Seattle and followed in his father's footsteps to join the The Boeing Company. Dad "built" planes for over 30+ years retiring in 2019. When not working at Boeing, he also moonlighted at the Kingdome as a bartender in the 102 lounge and more notably the Mariners owner's suite for 19 seasons. The Kingdome served as a special place for the Cano family.
During the late 80s Pops grew fond for the game of golf. You would often find him every weekend at Tyee GC, Riverbend, or Foster Golf Links playing in a tournament. He was an avid supporter of the 19th hole! His other hobbies included supporting local jazz/R&B acts, singing karaoke and hanging with his pride & joy Roxy Ann (his late dog).
Once retired, George proudly took on the responsibility as the golf coach at his alma mater Chief Sealth HS. He was extremely passionate and proud of all the students that played for him. To keep his game sharp in the offseason he stayed busy marshaling at Foster Golf Links.
Dad is survived by his wife of 39+ years Charlene (Henry) Cano. Children- Issac (Laini), Rachel Ann (James) Macalma, Chayna Marie and her significant other Joeii and grand-daughter's Leilah Rose and Mia Ryen.
A Celebration of Life to honor George's legacy will be held on Sunday, July 28th at Foster Golf Links in Tukwila, WA from 1-5pm. Family and friends are encouraged to join.
