George Oliver Carter, 71, of Goodlettsville, Tennessee, passed away on Saturday, December 9, 2023. Born July 13, 1952, in Madison, Tennessee, he was the son of the late George Wilson Carter and the late Katherine Louise Hutchison Carter.
George had a commanding presence about him. His wife & children are convinced that he was the strongest person, both mentally and physically, that they knew. When you got to know George, you'd find one of the most gentle souls. He was kind. He was loving. He was generous. Noted by his peers, he was a man of many skills.
George bought a brand new 1977 Ford F-150 pickup truck, and with that truck he proceeded to build his family’s log home with the resources from the land. The lumber came from the trees he cut down. The stones used for the foundation came from the creek nearby. The water used to hand mix concrete also came from the creek nearby. He was a modern day Paul Bunyon.
It was on this family property that George would accept Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. He attended Long Hollow Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon under the leadership of the late David Landrith. George was a member of Madison High School's 1972 graduating class. George was an outdoorsman. He enjoyed camping, hunting, and all family activities.
He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Debbie Merry Carter; son Colby Carter; daughter Olivia (David) Looper; granddaughters Sofia Looper and Caroline Looper; sisters Bette Swatzell and Georgia (Charles) Hankins; sisters-in-law Nancy Rains (Robbie Gafford) and Melissa (Steve) Compton; and last, but certainly not least, his trusty four legged friend, Levi.
A Memorial Gathering will take place on Sunday, December 17th, from 1:00 pm until 5:00 pm at Cole & Garrett Funeral Home in Goodlettsville located at 127 North Main Street, Goodlettsville, TN 37072.
