George Washington Carter, born on February 22, 1937, passed away on June 9, 2024.
He was the cherished son of Clarence and Penny Sutton Carter and lived a life defined by honor, dedication, and faith.
George served his country with distinction, dedicating 21 years to the US Air Force, including a significant period in Vietnam. As a member of the 474 Avionics Maintenance Squadron, he was an exemplary electronic technician and radio mechanic, ensuring the safety and efficiency of crucial communications. He retired as a TSGT on June 30, 1976, with the respect and admiration of his peers.
George was married to Betty Geraldine Tyson, with whom he shared a life filled with love and three children: Deborah Gail Carter Grice (RC), Michael Jay Carter, and George Gregory Carter (deceased), who is survived by his wife Barbara and their two daughters, Sabrina and Jennifer. After Betty's passing in 2007, George found companionship again with Margaret Perry, marrying her in 2011. They enjoyed ten years together before her passing in 2021. George's unwavering faith and commitment to his family were the bedrock of his life, inspiring those who knew him.
A solemn service to honor George's life will be held on Friday, June 14, at 2 pm at the Wilmington Funeral and Cremation Chapel with Rev. E. C. Mattocks officiating.
His memory will be cherished by his family and friends, who will remember him for his steadfastness, faith, and dedication.
The U.S. Air Force will be providing full military honors for his service. To honor his service to our country.
