It is with a profound sense of loss yet the courage to celebrate a life well-lived that we announce the passing of George Casey Jr., affectionately known as Po, Chuchie, and Georgie, on June 19, 2024. Born in San Francisco, CA, on December 22, 1958, George was a loyal and humble man who radiated a sense of calm and acceptance that was comforting to those around him. He was a man of few yet powerful words, and these words were often imbued with his unique wisdom and humor. To borrow the words of Ralph Waldo Emerson, "What lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us." And within George was a heart of courage, dedication, and unwavering love for his family.
George, a dedicated miner by profession, spent his life in various beautiful corners of the country, from Calistoga, California to Pueblo, Colorado, and even Honolulu, Hawaii, before settling in Kalamazoo, Michigan. He was a man comfortable with the flow of life, strong yet gentle, always willing to go along with whatever the day brought him. Outside of his work, George had a passion for riding motorcycles and playing dice, His dedication to his family was evident in his simple desire: to see his wife and family happy.
George leaves a legacy of love and strength and is survived by his daughters, Rebeca Sharp and Lori Brauer, his grandchild Nikolas Dowdy, Chad Joseph & Olivia Dowdy, Emilia Dowdy, Izrial & kailee Glick, Rihanna Sharp,Mitchell & Tyler, Tiffany & Matthew and lilyana, his great-grandchildren, Athyna, Killian, Lyraroze Psykoniki, Azazel, and Addalynn; along with his cousins who were cherished more like brothers and sisters, Anna, Juana Calhoun, Cathy Loveland, Thomas Lohwasser, Steven Mendez, Frank Lohwasser, Sheyanne, Toriano, and Jorden Lohwasser. He was preceded in death by his beloved spouse, Danita Casey, and his parents George Casey Sr. and Charlotte (Lottie) Casey.
Burial of Cremated Remains and Military Honors will take place on Wednesday, July, 10, 2024, at 12:00 pm EDT (NOON) at Fort Custer National Cemetery, 15501 Dickman Rd, Augusta, MI 49012, with Military Honors rendered by the United States Navy and the Fort Custer Volunteer Honor Guard. As we bid farewell to George, let us remember the words of Helen Keller: "What we have once enjoyed we can never lose. All that we love deeply becomes a part of us." George, no doubt, has become a part of all who knew him.
We encourage friends and family to share your memories and upload photos of George on his memorial page, as a celebration of his life. Your stories and pictures will serve as a tribute to his enduring spirit.
