Robert Barham Family Funeral HomeFuneral services for Mr. George Clifford “Cliff” Clayton, Jr. will begin at 10:00 AM Saturday, January 24, 2026, at Robert Barham Family Funeral Home with Brother Ben Jones and Mr. Jeff Easterling officiating. Interment will follow graveside rites at Clayton Cemetery. The Clayton Family will receive guests from 4:00 PM until 6:00 PM Friday, January 23, 2026, at the funeral home. Robert Barham Family Funeral Home is honored to be entrusted with the arrangements.
Mr. Clayton, 75, of Lauderdale, died Tuesday, January 20, 2026, at Baptist Anderson Regional Medical Center, surrounded by his loving family, following his courageous battle with cancer.
Cliff was a lifelong farmer. He enjoyed working with the land, spending time on his tractors, baling hay, tending cows, buying timber, and being around a group of people. Cliff never met a stranger and enjoyed talking to everyone. He was always willing to help anyone in any way he could. His favorite title was “Papaw Cliff” his grandchildren and family were his true pride and joy. He was proud of all of his children and supported them in each of their endeavors. Cliff was an active and committed member of Gateway Church in Lauderdale and was a Christian by faith.
Cliff is survived by his wife of over 53 years, Linda Clayton; his mother, Saranel Clayton; his children, Angie Clayton Smith (Brian), George Clifford “Trey” Clayton, III (Becca), and Dr. Misty Clayton McNeil (Chris); his grandchildren, Trever Smith, Kameron Clayton, Dixie Clayton, Kaitlynn Woodard, Gabriel Woodard, Ian Woodard, Dylan Woodard, Jackson Woodard, Savanna Woodard, Emily McNeil, and Cade McNeil; his siblings, Lynda Payne and Lewis Clayton (Mona); as well as a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
Mr. Clayton is preceded in death by his father, George Clifford Clayton, Sr.
Pallbearers will be Ricky Simmons, Eric Weaver, Johnny Ralph Morgan, Dusty Simmons, Louis “L.R.” Watt, Sr., Louis Watt, Jr., Bobby Pritchett, and Lamar Neal. Honorary Pallbearers will be Ralph Morgan, Tim Putnam, Joe Mosby, Mike Gully, Dennis “Gator” Johnson, Jessie Rangel, Ambrosia Rangel, Little Van Dees, and Moley Herring.
The Clayton Family suggests, in lieu of flowers, memorials be made as donations to Gateway Church in P.O. Box 5 Lauderdale, MS 39335 or to a charity of your choice.
The Clayton Family would like to express special appreciation to Dr. Shea Haley, Dr. Anthony Thomas, Dr. John Voss, Dr. Hatem Mourad, Dr. William Meyer, and the ICU Nurses and Staff of Baptist Anderson Regional Medical Center for their exceptional care and compassion.
