George A. Clayton, Jr. passed away on September 29, 2025 at the Overton Brooks VA Medical Center after a lengthy illness. He was born on June 4, 1937 in Shawneetown, Illinois to George A. Clayton, Sr. and Mildred L. Hise. He is preceded in death by his parents, wife Dolores Rivers Clayton, son James P. Clayton, two sisters Thelma Conn and Billie Louise Kimbro, two brothers Edward Clayton Hise and an infant brother (that only lived for one day).
To his family and friends in Louisiana he was called Bud but in his hometown of Illinois he was known by his initials G.A. He enlisted with the United States Air Force at age 17 but when his grandmother Kate found out she told on him because she did not want him to go to war so he had to reenlist at 18. He served in the military as an electrician working on radios in airplanes for 12 years and spent 2 months in Vietnam. While stationed at Barksdale Air Force Base in Louisiana he met the love of his life Dolores. They were married in Biloxi, Mississippi on April 27, 1964. The two were blessed with 56 years of marriage before her death in 2020.
Bud (G.A.) was highly intelligent and technically minded much like his father who was a master electrician. He was a very hard worker and had a strong work ethic. In his younger years he would often work one job during the day and another one at night to support his family. After his military career ended he went on to learn a trade in heating and air conditioning in Las Vegas. In his later years he became self employed and began a 40 year career in appliance repair. And for a short time had his own used appliance store. He was always there for his children. No matter what he would come to their rescue day or night. He would often do without so his family could have what they needed. His family meant everything to him. He enjoyed watching old westerns, watch collecting and picking up old bicycles to clean up and repair to give to his grandchildren and children in the neighborhood. He had a big heart and never minded lending a helping hand to those in need. He was a huge animal lover and was affectionately nicknamed the "Stray Cat Whisperer". He never met a stranger and enjoyed sitting out on his front porch visiting with his cats and neighbors. He will be greatly missed by all but especially by his children left behind. He was the best Daddy and friend anyone could ask for.
He is survived by his son Philip J. Clayton, two daughters Mildred Lee Bozeman (son-in-law Stan) and Carla S. Barker (son-in-law John), sister-in-law Kathy Rivers Britt, brother-in-law Danny Rivers, sister-in-law Sharion Rivers, 8 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren.
Visitation and Rosary will be held Thursday, October 9, 2025 from 4:00-6:30 p.m. at Osborn Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, October 10, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at the Cathedral of Saint John Berchmans in Shreveport. Followed by a graveside service at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Zwolle, Louisiana.
Pallbearers are Philip J. Clayton, Stan Bozeman, John Barker, Danny Rivers, Jr., Mark Rivers and Lester Rivers
