George Daniel Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Cremation Society of the Carolinas & Capital Funeral Home - Raleigh on Feb. 16, 2026.
George M. Daniel Jr. 93, of Cary, NC passed away on Wednesday, February 11 with his wife and children at his side.

George was born on Jan 17, 1933, to George and Fannie Daniel in Vandervort, Arkansas. After George graduated from McLeansboro Township High School in Illinois in 1951, he enlisted in the Navy and served proudly for four years on the USS Oriskany during the Korean war.

In 1956, George married hometown girl, Carol Sue Prince, and they made their home in Tulsa Oklahoma where he attended Tulsa University. They welcomed their son, Doug, in 1959 and then, after graduating from Bradley University with a degree in mathematics, George started his first job with Franklin Life Insurance Company in Springfield, Illinois. Their daughter Kim was born in 1964. The family later moved to Dallas Texas when George was recruited by Ross Perot to be part of a start-up company, Electronic Data Systems. In 1972, the Daniel family relocated to Cary NC, where they were blessed to find an amazing group of dear friends who have been an important part of their lives for more than 50 years.

George loved to travel, and over the years, alongside family and friends, he visited countries around the world, as well as all over the United States. After he retired, George took up bowl turning and made hundreds of beautiful wooden bowls that were gifted to friends and family, sold to admirers, and have made their way to homes near and far. The 'Bridge Club' and the 'Poker Guys' have played cards together for too many years to count. George had quite the reputation of being a cunning card player, and he enjoyed a variety of card games. He continued his card playing prowess with friends at Templeton and was the 'Marathon Bridge' scorekeeper.

George was predeceased in death by his parents George and Fannie Daniel and his sister, Millie.

He is survived by his wife of almost 70 years, Sue Daniel, his children Doug Daniel (Amy) and Kim Mitchell (Randy), his grandchildren Kacie Blackwell (Trey), Jake Lay, and Hunter Mitchell (Erin) He has two great grandchildren, Blake and Whitley. He also leaves behind beloved in-laws, nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at Greenwood Forest Baptist Church, where George was a member, on Sunday February 22 at 2:00 PM. The family will receive friends in the Fellowship Hall following the service.

In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to Transitions LifeCare in Wake County or The American Heart Society.
