George Davis Obituary

George W. Davis

December 20, 1931 - March 23, 2026

Charlotte, North Carolina - George W. Davis, born December 20, 1931, in Robbins, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 23, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of hard work, faith, and love for his family.

George grew up in Robbins and Pinehurst, North Carolina, the oldest of seven children with three brothers and three sisters. From an early age, he learned the value of hard work, delivering newspapers by bicycle seven days a week and later working at a local grocery store, where he helped deliver goods to customers.

In 1953, George was drafted into the United States Army and proudly served his country. He attended mechanical school at Fort Jackson, South Carolina, before being stationed in Korea, where he served as a staff sergeant and worked closely with a colonel. He returned home with honor following his service.

In 1955, George married the love of his life, Betty Seawell Davis, beginning a lifelong partnership of 71 years built on devotion and family.

In 1956, George moved to Charlotte, North Carolina, where he began working at Douglas Aircraft. Committed to advancing his skills, he attended school at night to study tool engineering. After Douglas closed, he continued his career with Duff-Norton and later with Pelton Crane, where he worked as a tool engineer for 19 years.

George was also an entrepreneur, starting his own business, Al Davis Machining, which he successfully operated for over 40 years.

He had a deep love for travel and adventure, traveling extensively and enjoying more than twenty cruises to destinations around the world.

In 1965, George moved to Lake Wylie, where he enjoyed many years on the water with his boats and Sea-Doos, making lasting memories with family and friends.

George was a man of strong faith and service. He served as a deacon and elder in his church, chaired the missions committee for many years, and was involved in finance and child development boards. He participated in multiple mission trips, including trips to Mexico and Jamaica, and remained dedicated to serving others throughout his life.

He was also active in his community, serving as an assistant scoutmaster and helping lead youth on trips and activities, always investing in the next generation.

George will be remembered as a devoted husband, loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, as well as a hardworking businessman and a man of deep faith who lived life with purpose and integrity.

George is survived by his wife, Betty Seawell Davis; his children, Pam James and her husband, E.J. James, and Al Davis and his wife, Mel Davis; his granddaughter, Meagan Dudek and her husband, Chris Dudek; his great-grandsons, Luke Dudek and Noah Dudek; and his siblings, Joyce Dorrie, Vernon Davis, Tonnie Davis, Wanda Suddreth, Vance Davis, and Vicki Watson. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alton Edgar Davis and Elizabeth Parks Davis.

A memorial service will be held at 2:30 pm Wednesday, April 15, 2026, at Steele Creek Presbyterian Church at Pleasant Hill, 15000 York Road, Charlotte, NC. The family will receive friends at the church beginning at 1:30 pm to the time of the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or Levine & Dickson Hospice House Southminster, 8919 Park Road, Charlotte, NC 28210, or a charity of your choice.
