George Dawes Obituary

George William Dawes, 77, of Washington, passed away Thursday, October 10, 2024. He was born May 17, 1947, in Pittsburgh, a son of the late George Dawes and Patricia E. Hilt. George received a bachelor of science degree in chemistry from Point Park College in 1972. He was an environmental science project manager for Molycorp for over 40 years. George was Catholic by faith. He enjoyed working on his farm and golfing. He loved his dog, Tucker, and spending time with his great-grandchildren. He was known as "the answer man." George was known as a saint and savior until the very end. On January 12, 1982, he married Delores Bird Dawes, who passed away October 11, 2005. Surviving are a stepson, Larry Lindley; two stepdaughters, Janet Medlen and Kathy Hull; a grandchild, Crystal L. Rivera; two great-grandchildren, Preston and Anthony Rivera-Dawes; two brothers, Tim T. Dawes and Dennis Dawes; and a sister, Pat Slosar. Family and friends will be received from 12 to 3 p.m., the hour of service, Thursday, October 17, 2024, in William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, with Deacon Barry Krofcheck officiating.

I remember George from the Molycorp Plant. Mad Scientist with the worlds biggest chemistry set called Solvent Extraction. I recall he had a motorcycle for a while. We trod the same dirt for a while. . . My condolences to the family. . . Jerry the Draftsman.
