George Haywood Day, 85, of Lynchburg, Virginia, passed away on March 4, 2026. He was the son of the late Robert and Margaret Day.
He was born on September 29, 1940, in Lynchburg, Virginia.
He attended Faith Baptist Church and remained constant in his faith throughout his life. George proudly served in the United States Navy. He always loved sharing stories from his travels during his time in the service. George enjoyed playing golf and watching movies. He was a sharp-dressed man and took pride in his appearance. He had a unique baritone voice and enjoyed singing for his grandkids.
George is survived by his daughter, Treva Bragg; grandchildren, Jessica Branham (Brandon) and Tanya Sinurat (Posman); great-grandchildren, Damon, Delora, Taylor, Carson, Casey, and Debbie; brother, James Day; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Day; brothers, Robert Day and Allen Day; great-granddaughter, Kendall Jane.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the E.C. Glass Marching Band Booster, where his great-granddaughter currently plays clarinet. George adored listening to all his grandkids’ musical talents.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
