George J Delvo was born in 1931 to Jacob and Clara Delvo in Langdon, North Dakota. He passed away peacefully in his sleep on January 31, 2025 in Battle Ground, Washington from complications of Alzheimer's disease. George was 93 years old.
George attended elementary schools and part of high school in North Dakota, but his family relocated to
Vancouver, Washington in 1947, and he graduated from Vancouver High School in 1949. He attended Clark College in 1950, but he decided to enlist in the United States Air Force in 1951. After 21 years of service, he retired as Chief Master Sergeant in 1972 and relocated back to
Vancouver, Washington. While serving in the Air Force he attended six different colleges and received his BA degree in 1966 at Chapman College in California. He always joked that it took him 16 years and 6 colleges to finally get his degree.
While in the military, he married his first wife Artie in 1954 and they had their son Steven in 1955. After losing his first wife, Artie, in 1983 to cancer, he married his current wife, Florence, in 1984 and adopted her daughter, Paula.
George worked in the homebuilding industry from 1972 until he retired in the late 1990's. He was very proud of having been responsible for construction of hundreds of starter homes in
Vancouver, Washington. After retiring, he helped his daughter and son-in-law open and operate a furniture store in Longview, Washington.
George was very active in the Clark County community, having served as a Director and Chairman of Fort Vancouver Library Board, President of Clark County Homebuilders Association, State President of Building Industry Association of Washington State, and President of Battle Ground Chamber of Commerce.
George is survived by his wife Florence, his son Steven and wife HeaKyoung (Kim) of Hamilton, MT., daughter, Paula and husband Dana of Battle Ground, WA., son Michael and wife Kristen of
Vancouver, WA., 8 grandchildren and 12 great- grandchildren, brother York Sinkler and wife Colleen of Fargo, ND., and many nieces, nephews and numerous good friends.
George was predeceased by his first wife, Artie, in September 1983; daughter, Cynthia Adams, in March 2021; grandson, Brian J Adams, in November 2009; great-grandson, Chase, in October 2005; and sister, Dolores, in August 2005.
In his final years, George was lovingly cared for by Vintage Years Belamour Care in Battle Ground, WA. He was so proud to call everyone there "our family", and they stated he was the perfect "host", always wanting to welcome everyone.
Evergreen Staples Funeral Home is in charge of final arrangements. Interment will be at Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery in Battle Ground, WA. A service for George will be announced at a future date.
