George Richard “Rick” Dowdy
June 30, 1949 ~ March 23, 2022
George Richard “Rick” Dowdy, returned to the loving arms of his Heavenly Father on Wednesday, March 23, 2022 after a long and courageous battle with cancer. He was 72 years old. Rick was born in Pearisburg, VA on June 30,1949 to Arthur and Betty Dowdy.
Rick married Vicki Andrews on July 8, 1967. They had three sons, Richard, Douglas, and Arthur. He later married Cheryl Hulse in 1978. They had one daughter, Dawnielle. As fate would have it Rick remarried Vicki Andrews on July 8, 2011 Rick retired in 2017 from Utility Trailer after 22 years.
Rick had a passion for painting, golf, and he loved making people laugh. He would commonly pop out his dentures to delight his grandchildren. He painted landscapes, and Bob Ross was his inspiration. He would participate in golf tournaments with his colleagues at Utility Trailer. You could always spot Rick in a crowd with his big smile and his signature hat.
Rick is survived by his wife, Vicki Dowdy; four sons, Richard Dowdy, Chad Dowdy, Art Dowdy, and Christian Vernieu; two daughters, Dawnielle (Shelby) Steed, and Mary (Christopher) Mangum; his brother, Jim Dowdy; and his sister, Lynette Pagano; 16 grandchildren, and 6 great-grandchildren; with many extended family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his mother, Betty (Meadows) Dowdy; and his father, Arthur Lee Dowdy.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 31, 2022 at 11 a.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. Friends may visit with family on Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Thursday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the mortuary. Interment, Lindquist’s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd.
