George Edwards Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by McCorkle Funeral Home - Durand on Mar. 18, 2026.
George Karsten Edwards, a spirited and dedicated servant of the Lord, born on January 4, 1958, in Würzburg, Germany, passed on to his heavenly home on March 14, 2026. George, a witty and inspiring individual, lived a life full of faith and devotion. His love for the Lord was evident in his active involvement in Berean Baptist Church, where he served as a Deacon, participated in the Choir Ministry, Youth Ministry, Bus Ministry and even took care of the church's lawn. He always made sure the lawn had the mower stripes. His commitment to the church and spreading the Word about God was what mattered most to him, and he remained unafraid of death, keeping his faith focused on God despite facing many health challenges throughout his life.

George worked as a skilled welder spending most of his career in manufacturing. George was known for his unique ability to entertain people with his nose flute, a testament to his lively spirit and jovial nature. In his younger years, George enjoyed fishing, golfing, and playing softball. He loved traveling to Florida to see family and being able to take in the sun, swim, and feel the sand beneath his feet.

George is survived by his sister, Connie Edwards; his son, Brandon (Angie) Edwards his daughter, Brittany Edwards (Loren); his grandchildren, Kaydon and Kennedy; his niece, Bianca Rother; and great nephew, Hudson. He is preceded in death by his parents, Karsten and Maria Edwards.

We also want to acknowledge all the people George loved so much and who cared for him within his church family.

As we remember George, let us reflect upon the words of Psalm 73:26, King James Version reads: "My flesh and my heart faileth: but God is the strength of my heart, and my portion for ever." This verse was dear to George and serves as a reminder of his unwavering faith in the Lord. As we mourn his loss, we also celebrate his life and the love he shared with us all.

We encourage you to leave your precious memories of George and upload photos to the memorial page. Your shared memories will serve as a comfort during this time of loss and will also help to keep George's inspiring spirit alive in our hearts.

A Memorial Ceremony will be held at 6:00 p.m., Thursday April 16, 2026 at Berean Baptist Church, 5626 Safford Road, Rockford, IL with a visitation to be held from 4:30 until time of service, Thursday at the church. The family invites friends and loved ones of George for fellowship following the service. Cremation Rites were Accorded. McCorkle Funeral Home - Durand Chapel assisted the family.
