George Edward Erickson passed away peacefully on January 10, 2026, at Duke Hock Family Pavilion in Durham, NC after a 2.5-year illness. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Mary; daughter, Kelley; son, George, Jr. (and his wife Nicole); brother Charlie (and his wife Nancy and their children, Eddie and Danny); and many extended family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, R. Edward Erickson and Epsie Erickson, sister Janice, and brother Eric, all from Jacksonville, Florida.
George was born on December 29, 1957, hours after his mother went into labor during the Gator Bowl game. He attended local schools, graduating from Englewood High School in 1975, and Florida State University in 1979. After graduation, he began a 19-year career with Colgate-Palmolive, transitioning to real estate development, and then ultimately to renewable energy which brought him to North Carolina.
Known for his quick wit and positive outlook on life, he deeply cherished his wide circle of friends, all of whom tolerated his many “Georgisms.” An avid golfer, nothing was better than the time spent with his Scratch Group at Marsh Landing C.C. in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida. After relocating to NC, he was lucky to have been welcomed by another community of golfers at Henderson C.C.
He was devoted to his family, his pets and the Seminoles.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation in memory of George Erickson to Angiosarcoma Awareness, either online at cureasc.org or by mail to Angiosarcoma Awareness, Inc., P.O. Box 4919, Portland, ME 04101
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, January 31st from 2-4pm at TPC Sawgrass Clubhouse, 110 Championship Way, Ponte Vedra Beach, FL, 32082. To get through community security gates, driver must state that they are going to a private event at the TPC clubhouse and show ID.
