George Shelton “Pete” Ferebee, of Swansboro, North Carolina, died Tuesday, August 6, 2024.

Pete was born on July 28, 1935, to the late William Davidson Ferebee and Myrtle Williams Ferebee of Chesterfield County, Virginia. He was a lifelong self-employed businessman. He and his late wife Joan owned and operated Ferebee’s Motel and Restaurant in Chesterfield County, Virginia for many years along with numerous other business ventures along the way. He and Joan later owned and operated Ferebee Ford in Louisa, Virginia from 1976 until retiring to coastal North Carolina in 1996.

Following retirement, he and Joan split their time between North Carolina and Florida for many years. Pete often said that the thing he missed the most after retiring were the customers and friends he met during his working years. He was a great cook and enjoyed cooking for large groups, especially his family. He and Joan enjoyed many wonderful trips and adventures during their lifetime together.

Pete also served as a Mason for 64 years, holding memberships at Midlothian Lodge 211, and transferring to Louisa Day Lodge 58 in 1977. There he served as Worshipful Master in 1983 and went on to be District Deputy Grand Master for the 10th Masonic District in 1985.

He is survived by sons, George “Petey” Shelton Ferebee, Jr. (Karen), and Michael Winn Ferebee (Rhonda); and his son-in-law, Herbert Booker Osburn.

He was “Granddaddy” to seven grandchildren, Cammie Osburn Vaughan (Brackett), Herbert Booker Osburn, Jr. (Emily), Anne Ferebee Short (Justin), Samuel Watkins Ferebee (Jillian), William Parker Ferebee (Lydia), Jill Ferebee Howard (Tyler), and Claire Ferebee Kelley (Trevor); and 15 great-grandchildren, J.B., Parker and Averil Vaughan, Susannah and Louisa Osburn, Hudson and Clark Short, Jamie, Sadie and Jesse Ferebee, Parker, Ella and Cole Ferebee, and Blythe and Ava Howard.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 69 years, Joan Joyce Ferebee; and his daughter, Elaine Ferebee Osburn.

A private graveside family service is planned for later this summer at Westhampton Memorial and Cremation Park in Richmond, Virginia.
