Obituary published on Legacy.com by Omps Funeral Home and Cremation Center - Amherst Chapel on Dec. 9, 2025.
George David Gardiner, Jr., 90 of Stephens City, VA, passed away on Sunday, December 7, 2025, at Winchester Medical Center.

George was born in 1935 in Washington D.C., the son of the late George David Gardiner, Sr., and Gabrielle B. (Budd) Gardiner. He was a graduate of Northwestern High School where he still holds the record for longest interception return. He then went on to earn his associate degree from the University of Maryland where he was part of the Gymkana Troup. George served our country in the United States Army from 1958-1960 as a supply clerk and MP. He worked as a deli manager for Giant Foods, a supervisor for Goodyear Tire and as maintenance supervisor for PIE Trucking. George was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in Winchester. He enjoyed woodworking and was an avid Washington Redskins and Baltimore Orioles fan. George would look forward to his Friday night get together with his friends and he was known as the "Mayor" of his local community in Hagerstown, MD on Irvin Ave.

He met his wife Shirley Mae while working at Giant Foods and they married on December 1, 1962, in Prince George's County, MD.

George is survived by his wife, Shirley, son, David Jonathan Gardiner (Tracy); grandchildren, Camden Gardiner (Mary) and Lindsey Gardiner; great-grandchildren, Mabel Grace, and Matilda June Gardiner, his sister, Gabriella Ethier and many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.

In addition to his parents, George is preceded in death by his sister, Marian Hall and brother, Amos Gardiner.

A visitation will be held on Friday, December 19, 2025, at 3:30pm with a service to be conducted at 5pm at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel. Interment will be private.

Memorial contributions may be made in memory of George to Blue Ridge Care, 333 W. Cork St., Suite 405, Winchester, VA 22601.
