George Goodley Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by J. Nelson Rigby Funeral Home, Inc. - Media on Jan. 14, 2026.
George Flewitt Goodley

88, of Glen Mills, PA passed away peacefully at his home on January 10, 2026 surrounded by family.

George was born in Kingston, NY to Violet Mabel (nee Bloom) and Charles Goodley on November 18, 1937. His family later moved to Media, PA while he was in grade school. He attended Media High School and graduated in 1955. He earned a bachelor's degree in Chemistry from Saint Joseph's University. He began his professional career as a chemical lab technician at The American Viscose Company, Marcus Hook. He later transitioned to a career as a machine designer in the industrial strapping systems industry employed by FMC Corporation, Cyklop Strapping Corporation, and Illinois Tool Works Inc.

George's second 'career' was devoted to improvements of the family home - refurbishing nearly every corner of the home over the past 50 years. He loved to work with his hands and in retirement his hobbies included woodworking, restoring antique furniture he discovered while frequenting local auctions, and collecting and restoring vintage tractors. He also took great pride and enjoyment in his annual vegetable garden and maintaining his four acre property.

George is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Barbara Joan(nee Rigby), his children: Bruce C. Goodley (Alice) of Hilton Head, SC, James J. Goodley of Wanship, UT, and Allison G. Goodley (James Erdosy) of Saunderstown, RI; grandchildren: Addison, Daniel, Grace, Steven, and Matthew and great grandchildren: Cora, Andrew and Tanner. He is preceded in death by his mother and father, Violet and Charles Goodley.

Relatives and friends may call on Saturday, January 17, 2026 at the First United Methodist Church 350 W State St, Media, PA 19063 from 10:00 am to 11:00 am with the service at 11:00 am.
