Lillian Weekes Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by J. Nelson Rigby Funeral Home, Inc. - Media on Feb. 21, 2026.
Lillian Bertha Butler Weekes

Age 103, passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of love, family, and devotion. Born in November 1922 in Chadds Ford, Pennsylvania, Lillian was the eighth of ten children born to William Harry and Emma Louise (Talley) Butler. She was lovingly known to family and friends as Oud, Lil, Aunt Lil, Grandmom, and Dolie.

Lillian delighted in spending time with her family. She especially looked forward to the long-standing Butler family picnic tradition and treasured time spent with her sisters, affectionately known as the "aunt patrol." Babysitting and enjoying her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and extended family brought her immense joy.

She lived in Chester and Delaware counties when she was younger, then 52 years in Trainer, PA. She later moved to the Lehigh Valley living in Macungie for 22 years. As a young woman, Lillian worked as a switchboard operator for the telephone company. She was also proud of her volunteer service during World War II as a plane spotter, contributing to the war effort on the home front.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 36 years, Joseph Thomas Weekes; her parents; and her siblings Mildred, Helen, Esther, Harry, Robert, Mary, William, Irene, Henrietta, and her adopted sister Nellie.

Lillian is survived by her children, Joan Newlin and her husband Ronald Newlin, and Dr. Lillian "Cookie" Weekes and her husband Joseph Montesano; her grandchildren Joan Grubb Braunstein (Andrew), Amanda Kochersperger (Kevin), Gregory Montesano (Elizabeth), and Brandon Newlin; her great-grandchildren Trent Kochersperger (Carla), Joshua Kochersperger, Lily Kochersperger, Mia Newlin, Emma Montesano, Cecelia Montesano, and Gianna Montesano; as well as many loving nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at Elam United Methodist Church, 1073 Smithbridge Road, Glen Mills, Pennsylvania, on Thursday, February 26, at 11:00 a.m. Where friends may call starting at 10:15 am. Interment will follow at Edgewood Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the memorial fund at Elam United Methodist Church, where Lillian was a devoted member for many years. Funeral arrangements are by Rigby Funeral Home. Online condolences may be shared at Rigbyfuneralhome.com.
