George Gordon Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Rupell Funeral Home, LLC on Feb. 25, 2026.
George T. Gordon, of Easton, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully on February 24, 2026.

Born and raised in Phillipsburg, New Jesey, George graduated from Phillipsburg High School in 1965 and enlisted in the United States Air Force shortly after graduation, proudly serving during the Vietnam War.

On July 6, 1968, he married his high school sweetheart, Sue Gordon. They shared a lifetime together and would have celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary this year.

George worked as a heavy equipment operator and explosives specialist and was proud to have been part of the team that built Route 78. Beyond his career, George was deeply involved in his community. He was a member and Past Master of Phillipsburg Lodge #52, F&AM, was past District Deputy of Grand Lodge, and Past Worthy Patron the Order of the Eastern Star.

George had many passions. He loved dirt track racing and spent years at Flemington Speedway as a track photographer, developing photos in the darkroom he built in his basement. In addition to capturing racing action, he photographed many weddings, including his son's. He was also a football fan who rooted for any team that beat the Philadelphia Eagles or the Dallas Cowboys. In later years, George began woodworking. Above all, George's greatest joy was his family, especially his cherished grandchildren.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Sue Gordon; his son, Thomas Gordon, and daughter-in-Law Wendy; his grandchildren, Stephanie Gordon and Michael Gordon; his sister, LuAnn Wright and her husband Stacey; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, George and Mary Gordon.

George will be remembered for his devotion to family, his service to his country, his love of community, and the quiet pride he took in the life he built.

A Visitation for the Family and Friends of George will be held on Monday, March 2, 2026 from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm, with Masonic Services at 11:00 am, followed by a funeral service at 12:00 pm at Rupell Funeral Home, LLC; 465 Memorial Parkway; Phillipsburg, NJ 08865.

Brother George & his wife Sue have been close friends for over 30 years. I became a Freemason in 2002 due to his influence. He installed me as Master of J. Wendell Fargis Lodge number 356 in 2008. He learned and memorized the Florida work to be able to install me. He will be great fully missed.

George, you have made your final flight into the wild blue yonder´s. Airman, you stand relieved from your post. A job well done fellow veteran and mason. America thanks you for your service to our country in the defense of freedom. The final volley has sounded and taps is about to begin, ending a successful career as a nation´s defender. Have a smooth flight airman.

I will miss George.....I live across the street from George and enjoyed sitting in his garage or back porch with his friends. He served his country and was a talented photographer. He was a true gentleman.
