George Grasser Obituary

George J. Grasser Jr.
September 8, 1944 - January 29, 2026
George J. Grasser Jr., 81, of Wallingford, passed away Thursday, January 29, 2026, at Yale New Haven Hospital after having struggled with dementia. He was the beloved husband of Janice (Bochnik) Grasser of 42 years, and the loving father of Arlene A. Grasser.
George was born in Meriden, September 8, 1944, a son of the late George J. and Augusta "Polly" (Williams) Grasser and was a lifelong Wallingford resident. He taught history at Moran Middle School, owned a local business with his brother Thomas and longtime friend Frank Maresca Sr., and was an avid golfer. He maintained membership at the Elks and the PNA of Wallingford. George loved nothing more than his town and his many friends and acquaintances. Every day was a gift, and there were few missed opportunities to do exactly what he loved.
In addition to his wife and daughter, he will be missed by his brother, Thomas W. Grasser; sister, MaryAnn Davie, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers-in-law, Arthur Davie and William Jachimczyk, and sister-in-law, Karen Grasser.
George's family will receive relatives and friends in The Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 N. Main St. Ext., on Friday, February 6th, from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. when the funeral cortege will proceed to Most Holy Trinity Church, 84 N. Colony St., Wallingford, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12 p.m. Interment will be private. He will be laid to rest beside his cherished family home on East Main Street in Wallingford at St. John Cemetery. Gifts in George's Memory may be sent to: St. Jude Children's Research Hospital (www.stjude.org).

Mr. Grasser was my history teacher in Moran in 1976. He was full of character, very funny and cheerful. I remember to this day something he asked the class one day: "Why do wet birds never fly at night?" He kept it a secret all these years. May he rest in peace.
