Obituary published on Legacy.com by Lighthouse Family Mortuary - Greeley on Dec. 7, 2023.
George Grine Sr, 70, of Longmont, Colorado, passed away peacefully with his family by his side, on Sunday, December 3, 2023, in
Greeley, Colorado. He was born on July 1 1, 1953 in
Las Vegas, New Mexico, to Filiberto and Margherita (Mares) Grine. Weighing in at over a whopping 9 pounds, he was the only one of his siblings to be born in a hospital.
He loved the outdoors, spending his time golfing, gardening, cycling and playing softball with family and friends. He loved going to the mountains just for a leisurely drive, to camp, fish or hike. "I loved taking drives to the mountains, just him and me, and always stopping for kettle corn along the way." George Grine Jr.; "I remember we would spend our weekends driving up to Lefthand Canyon to go river fishing." Virginia Aragon-Grine; "On one of our many drives to Estes, we stopped on the side of the road and got to watch the mountain goats climb up the mountain side. He really loved being able to see wildlife." Kelli Grine
He enjoyed lifting weights and dabbled in bodybuilding competitions. He was a great cook and enjoyed making food for family and friends. "I remember waking up in the mornings and he was doing his work-out and watching Judge Judy. Sometimes he would make breakfast burritos for the guys at work and he would always leave a few extra for us." Breanna Grine.
He was employed by the City of Longmont for over 30 years and retired in 2015. He was hardworking, driven and devoted to his career. His true love and passion however, were his children, grandchildren, family members and countless friends. "I remember one year he dressed up as Santa Claus and came in with a big bag of gifts over his shoulder. When it was my turn to sit with him, I knew his eyes as those of my grandpa, so I pulled down his beard and yelled, "You're not Santa Claus! You're my grandpa!" To which he just smiled and laughed." Joshelle Grine; "I loved when he would come to visit me and have some lunch. I loved sitting and talking with my baby brother, my "Little Georgy"." Eleanor Grine
He was one of the friendliest people you could know. It seemed like no matter where he was, he would run into someone he knew. Not only was he friendly, he was also very funny with his cheesy jokes and little pranks. When he left, he traded his weights for wings; and although he will be deeply missed, he will always be close by.
George is survived by Kelli Grine; children, Virginia Aragon-Grine, Breanna Grine, and George Grine Jr; grandchildren, Joshelle (Nick) Grine, and Joseph Aragon; great grandchildren Aslynn Ross and Asher Aragon; siblings Eleanor (Clemente) Zavala and Vincent (Linda) Grine and many other family members.
He is preceded in death by his parents and 6 siblings.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the First Church of the Nazarene, 2515 W 16th St,
Greeley, CO 80634, on Thursday, December 14, 2023 at 11:00am.
