George W. Hogshead, 92, died Wednesday, May 20, 1992 at Oak Lea Nursing Home, Harrisonburg.
He was born February 22, 1900 at Sangersville, a son of Charles Arthur and Jesse Bell (Phillips) Hogshead.
On February 20, 1926 he married Hallie Ervine, who died January 24, 1987.
He was a member and elder of McDowell Presbyterian Church. He was a member of Highland Masonic Lodge 110 AF&AM. He was employed by the Virginia Department of Transportation for 15 years and operated Hogshead General Store.
Mr. Hogshead was preceded in death by two sons, Charles H. Hogshead and Sidney F. Hogshead; and a grandson, Gregory Hogshead.
Survivors include two sisters, Ollie Hiner and Lucy Landes, both of Bridgewater; four brothers, Carl of Fort Valley, Massey of Bridgewater, Lester of Waynesboro and Richard Hogshead of Harrisonburg; daughters-in-law, Betty Hogshead of McDowell and Louise S. Hogshead of Blue Grass; three grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
A service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at Obaugh Funeral Home by the Rev. Lester LaPrade with burial in McDowell Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Robert B. Ralston, Leo and Bobby McCray, Joe Doughtery, Shannon Malloy, Lohr Vance, Robert Nash and Lewis Wilson Shumate.
Honorary pallbearers will be officers and directors of First and Citizens Bank; and Dr. D.W. Robinson, William Stuart, Ralph Gutshall and James Ralston.
