George "Duke" Howard, 89, of Cape Girardeau passed away Friday, July 18, 2025, at Mercy Southeast in Cape Girardeau.

He was born on August 26, 1935, in Palmyra, son of Hiram and Elsie Davis Howard. Duke and Janice Acord were married on September 11, 1965, in St. Louis. They were married for 52 years when she passed away in 2018.

Duke attended Normandy High School in Normandy. He was drafted in the United States Army on June 2, 1958, and was honorably discharged on June 1, 1960. After his military service, he returned to St. Louis and worked as an auto mechanic until his retirement. Duke was also a ham radio enthusiast and an avid supporter of NASCAR and Cardinal baseball.

Loving survivors include his daughter, Shery (Mike) Shenberg; two grandsons, Brent and Hayden Shenberg; and one sibling, Mary Partell.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two siblings, Virginia Burdine and John Howard

Cremation arrangements by McCombs Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau. There will be no services.

The family suggests that contributions be made to church or charity of the donor's choice.
