George “Sonny” Franklin Hudson, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and dedicated member of the Salipta, Alabama community, passed away peacefully on November 18, 2025, at the age of 93. Born on February 22, 1932, to parents Hearn David and Lillie Hudson. Sonny lived a life filled with joy, laughter, and a profound love for his family and friends. Sonny was a man whose sweet soul and infectious spirit touched everyone he met. His laughter was a cherished sound that brightened even the darkest of days. As a devoted husband to Voncille Hudson, Sonny exhibited love and tenderness that set an example for all those around him. Together, they built a family grounded in love and values, which he cherished deeply throughout his life. A steadfast servant of his faith, Sonny served as a Deacon at River Hill Baptist Church since 1964, demonstrating unwavering dedication to his community and church family. His love for God was evident in all that he did—a true testament to his character as a man of integrity and compassion. Sonny had a special fondness for the great outdoors, particularly the Smoky Mountains in Tennessee. Family trips to this beautiful destination created memories that will be treasured by his loved ones forever. His adventurous spirit and zest for life encouraged those around him to embrace the beauty of creation and to appreciate the simple joys that life has to offer.
Sonny is proceeded in death by his parents, son George Daryl Hudson, and sister Wolen Shewmake.
He is survived by his loving wife Voncille Hudson, his daughter Melanie Hudson (Ritchie) Byrd and daughter-in-law Renee Hudson Sullivan; grandchildren Morgan ( Brian) Dukes, Callie (Ike) Williams, Kayla (Ryan) Parazine, and Emily (Billy) Musgrove, ten great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. Funeral Services will be held in his honor at River Hill Baptist Church on November 20, 2025. Family and friends are invited to visit from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 AM, with Bro Tim Huie, Bro. Brian Dukes, Bro. Ryan Parazine, and Bro. Henry “Digger” Creel officiating, where all will gather to share heartfelt memories and stories of a life so well-lived. George will be laid to rest in a graveside service at River Hill Baptist Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Hudson Dukes, Dalton Dukes, John Daryl Dukes, Cameron Williams, Cade William, Ike Williams, Ritchie Byrd, and Billy Musgrove.
Honorary pallbearers are Mac & Sandra Henley, Geri Lynn Roberts, Kelly Sullivan, Harold & Susan Hoven, Bobby Pritchard, Kennett Mott, Dennis Mott, Roy Atchison, Larry Toland, Eric Shewmake, and John Moseley. As we remember George Franklin Hudson, let us celebrate a life marked by love, laughter, and devotion. He leaves behind a legacy that will forever resonate in the hearts of those who had the privilege to know him. May his soul rest in eternal peace.
