It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Joe Edward DuBose, aged 88, on November 19, 2025. Born on March 4, 1937, Joe was the cherished only child of Casey and Ollie Bumpers DuBose. He grew up surrounded by a loving family and a large circle of extended relatives who shaped his life with enduring values of kindness and community.
Joe proudly owned and operated DuBose Motor Company for many years, a venture that allowed him to support his community and forge lasting relationships with his friends and customers who affectionately called him "Mr. Joe". His warmth and generosity left a profound impact on everyone who crossed his path.
A passionate outdoorsman, Joe developed an early love for the natural world, particularly the beauty of wild turkeys (he liked to keep a bottle of Wild Turkey in his cabinet just to remind him of being outdoors). Joe found solace in the serenity of the woods. He often expressed his belief in God while sitting quietly in nature, stating, "I don't know how anyone can sit in the woods, listening to the sounds of nature and not believe in God." His spiritual journey deepened in his later years, enriching not only his life but also serving as a source of inspiration for his family.
Joe's family and friends are mourning his loss but find solace in the knowledge that he is now at peace.
He is preceded in death by his parents and his first wife, Molly Ann Slayton DuBose.
Joe is survived by his wife, Gwendolyn DuBose; children, James Randall Maness Jr. and Rebecca Morrow; granddaughter, Rainn Abel (Zach); great grandchildren, Beckett and Brooks; godson, Denton Beard; as well as numerous other relatives and dear friends.
A funeral service will be held in honor of Joe at the First United Methodist Church of Jackson on Monday, November 24, 2025, at 11:00 AM. Prior to the service, a public visitation will take place from 9:30 AM to 11:00 AM, allowing all who knew and loved him to pay their respects. Following the service, Joe will be laid to rest at Stave Creek Baptist Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be Randy Maness, Denton Beard, Robbie Thompson, Mike Howell, Ves Slayton, Jason Thomas, Jimmy Pierce, and Mel DuBose. Honorary pallbearers will be the "Bakery Coffee Group"
Joe Edward DuBose will be remembered for his compassionate spirit, unwavering faith, and love for the great outdoors. His journey on earth has ended, but his outgoing personality, love of life, gentle spirit, and sense of humor will always be a golden thread in the memories of those who loved him most.
