George Ice Obituary

1941 – 2026
George Earl Ice, 84, passed away peacefully in Arlington, Texas, on Jan. 22, 2026, following a long battle with Alzheimer's and a recent bout of pneumonia.
A native of Medford, Oregon, George was an Eagle Scout and a standout athlete who carried a lifelong passion for baseball. After studying at the University of Oregon, his path led him to Alaska, where he spent decades as an operating engineer. It was in Fairbanks where a chance meeting at a phone booth led him to his beloved wife, Barbara "Sparky Lou." The two shared a life of adventure, exploring the Alaskan wilderness and traveling across the globe.
Known as a man who "never met a stranger," George was a friendly fixture in his neighborhood and a friend to all. He is survived by his wife, Barbara; his sister, Dorothy Ferrell; his sister-in-law, Elaine Norcross; and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at Wade Funeral Home & Crematory. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.

Yesterday

Barbara, Sorry to hear that George passed away. Hope he and Leland are working on some road project where ever they are. He loved to get the Leland Johnson special on the flowers he bought. He was something special himself.
Sincerely, Doyle

Barb,
Sharon and I were deeply saddened to hear of George's passing, as was our son, Barry.
Barry and I shared a deep seated fondness for him, both as a friend and for his special amazing skills on a heavy construction job. He was a pleasure to be around both on and off the job.
I'll never forget my first time meeting him. I was hired to take over management of a project to rebuild a portion of the pipeline haul road in 1992.
I always liked to know the grade checker and establish a good relationship as they are one of the most important people on a project that entails dirt work. Getting acquainted also allows me to make some educated guesses regarding their skill level. I well remember that first visit. I could immediately tell that George was a winner in all categories, plus he had such a great personality!
That's how the friendship started and it grew by leaps from that point on. He was a wonder guy and ended up being one of my most treasured friends.
I am missing him already!
Please, know that if you're ever in our area that you're always welcome at our home.
Please stay in touch with us.
Tom and Sharon

So sorry to hear of George´s passing. So envied your long commitment to each other and how he worshiped you. Time will pass, and you will feel lonely in a crowd and think of him daily. So many of my friends are grieving the loss of their soul mate.Crying after many years is not uncommon. Perhaps a church support group will help you through the many rough times you will experience. Living in Texas now? Would love to hear from you.
Thoughts and prayers coming your way. Joanne Berardi Bodenhamer tel 918.440.3412

I met the Ice Man working for Green construction during the flood control project. We worked on a lot of jobs with a lot of different projects. It´s been about 5 years since the last time . He was in Freddy´s shopping. He was a really interesting person. I will miss him

Barb, I'm so sorry for your loss. It was beautiful seeing how much George loved you. He was the nicest man. I'll always remember the Thanksgiving he raved on about a salad I brought. I wish I could have made it for him again he was so complimentary. What little time we did spend together was very precious. God bless you. Love from Alaska, Jan Curtiss
