Michael David Boze, Sr., 75, was born in
Chicago, IL and passed away on Tuesday, March 10, 2026, in
Elkhart, IN surrounded by loved ones. Michael was born to Thomas W. and Vivian Ann Marie (Warner) Boze on August 10, 1950.
Michael's legacy is carried forward by his four daughters, Vivian Taber of
Elkhart, IN; Felicia (Matt) Turk; Michelle Tinoco of
Arlington, TX; and Melissa Lane of
South Bend, IN as well as his son, Michael D. Boze, Jr. of
Topeka, KS. He is also survived by his twelve grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. Michael was preceded in death by his sister, Diane Foster, and three brothers, Thomas, George, and James Boze.
After earning his high school diploma, Michael answered the call to serve his country honorably in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War. Michael was stationed at Forbes Field Air Force Base in
Topeka, KS; He later served in Taipei, Taiwan as a refueler. Michael spent years as an engineer on the railroads traveling the heartland. Michael later answered the call to serve others as a group home manager in
Topeka, KS. There Michael showed off his cooking skills and shined with his compassion for others; it was said Michael could make a "mean" paper bag apple pie that everyone loved. Michael went sightseeing around the country as a semi-truck driver.
Michael was an ardent fan of the Chicago Bears, Notre Dame, as well as the Boston Celtics. Michael was overjoyed when he was given the opportunity to see the Notre Dame football team in Chicago and presented with an autographed football. Michael's enthusiasm wasn't confined to the sidelines. He was a great athlete who enjoyed swimming and playing basketball. He channeled his sporting spirit onto the basketball court, playing with a competitive zest and camaraderie that echoed his approach to life. On the court, Michael was nicknamed "Bird" after Boston Celtic's player, Larry Bird. Michael's love for the outdoors shone brightly through his passion for camping and fishing. He enjoyed being able to teach his children and grandchildren how to fish and get that worm on the hook. Michael loved Key West, traveling and the finer things of life. Adventures and travel provided Michael with stories and experiences that he would gladly share with anyone who had the pleasure of his company.
Michael's memory will be cherished and kept alive through the countless lives he touched. As Michael departs this earthly plane, he leaves behind an indelible mark on the hearts of those he encountered. His presence will be deeply missed.
