Michael Campbell Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Palmer Funeral Homes - River Park on Mar. 3, 2026.
Michael E. Campbell, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away at 2:05 am on Monday, March 2, 2026, in Memorial Hospital. Born on December 22, 1945, in South Bend, Michael's warmth and generosity touched many throughout his 80 years of life.
Michael's journey began as the beloved son of Cleo and Lillith (Lillich) Campbell, both of whom predeceased him, as did his sister Joann Coleman and brother Tommie Campbell. His life was one of dedication to his family and his community, a testament to the values instilled in him from a young age. On June 10, in 1967, Michael married his childhood sweetheart, Jackie (Ellis), who he had adored since first grade. Their love story was one for the ages, with Jackie knowing from their earliest days together that Michael was her destined partner for life. Their union was blessed with twin daughters, Andrea (Chris) Tobin and Amy (Andrew) Duesel, and a son, Aaron Campbell. Michael's role as a father was one of his greatest joys, and his legacy continues through his grandchildren, Jennifer, Erin, and Robert (Mackenzie) Campbell, Oliver Tobin, Camden, and Collin Duesel, and his great-grandchildren, Jackson, Myla, and Peyton.
A proud graduate of Riley High School and IUSB, Michael's education played a significant role in shaping the man he became. Michael's professional life was marked by a successful 51-year career as a Realtor, during which he worked for many companies, including Century 21. His work ethic and integrity set a standard in the industry and earned him the respect and admiration of colleagues and clients alike. Beyond his career, Michael was deeply involved in his community. He was a proud member of the Masonic Lodge #738, where he served as a Past Master. His commitment to service and fellowship was evident in all his endeavors. An avid fisherman, Michael enjoyed casting lines with friends and his son, creating memories that would last a lifetime. His love for Charleston, South Carolina, was no secret, as he relished the city's charm and history during his visits.
Michael's passion for life was reflected in his many interests and hobbies. He was a coach for his daughters' softball teams for many years, earning the title of a great dad. He was a Boy Scout growing up and volunteered when his son, Aaron, was in scouts. He also owned Skynet which was the first internet provider in the area. A childhood memory that lasted a lifetime was the model train he received when he was three years old. After more than 20 years of effort, Michael's persistence paid off when he finally got it running just before Thanksgiving last year.
Above all, Michael cherished his role as a grandpa, a role that brought him immeasurable happiness. His love for his family was the cornerstone of his life, and his guidance and wisdom will be sorely missed.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:30 pm on Friday, March 6, 2026, in St. Pius Catholic Church, with Msgr. Mike Heintz officiating. Family and friends are welcome to gather for visitation in the Church from 12:30 pm to 1:30pm. Palmer Funeral Home - River Park Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements. Michael's life was a beacon of love, commitment, and service, and while he will be greatly missed, his spirit will continue to inspire those who knew him.
