George Jacoby Obituary

Published by Legacy on Oct. 1, 2025.
George Paul Jacoby went home to Heaven to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday July 29th. He was born on July 31, 1940, to Joseph and Hildur Jacoby in Dobbs Ferry New York.
George was a loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He is survived by and was deeply loved by his three grandchildren Brandon, Lauren and Derek (who called him Pop-Pop), his children Bill (wife Jennifer) and Anne (husband Richard), his wife Mary Ann, his sister Cathy Parker and many nieces and nephews. He was a man of deep faith, quiet strength and strong character. He loved the beach, especially Hilton Head Island, Southern Shores and Ocracoke Island. He loved his dogs, classic cars, convertibles, songbirds and all types of music. Driving in his convertible with his wife and his dog was one of his favorite things. George and Mary Ann met when he was 21 and she was 19. Their marriage was a beautiful partnership and an inspiring example of love and devotion. One of the great joys and strengths of their life and 61 year marriage was prayer and worshipping together in song. They were very involved in prayer ministry and worship for many years in both Virginia and Tennessee.
George attended St. Regis High School in Manhattan and graduated from The New Jersey Institute of Technology with a degree in electrical engineering. George spent the first part of his career as an engineer in the Civil Service division of the United States Government working on Navy ships and submarines and was based out of the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard in Virginia. He was a skilled mechanic and would often buy, repair and sell cars as a hobby. He learned how to prepare tax returns and became an Enrolled Agent with the IRS. He had a successful tax practice as a side business for many years in Chesapeake, Virginia. After retiring from government service in 1998, he spent 17 years working with his son Bill at Hobbs & Associates, Inc. He played a vital role in helping build the company's operations in the Knoxville market.
George has left a legacy of loyalty, faithfulness, dedication, and inspiring perseverance combined with wisdom and gentle leadership. Although his spirit has left us, his influence and presence will remain for generations to come. A Celebration of Life for George will be held at Cornerstone Church, 1250 Heritage Lake Blvd., Knoxville, TN 37922 at 2:00 PM on Saturday August 9th. The receiving of friends will be from 12:30 – 2:00 PM in the same location. There will be a graveside service for the family later in the day.
