George (Geo) Johnston of Duxbury, MA passed away on November 4th of natural causes at the age of 92. Geo was pre-deceased by his wife, Nancy, and his son Brian. He also leaves his sons Dana of Alexandria, VA, Scott of Cyprus, CA, and Todd of Sagamore Beach, MA, their spouses Laura, Katrina, and Michelle, ten grandchildren, and eleven great grandchildren.

As a first generation American, George had a tremendous work ethic, setting a great example for his children. George graduated from Brookline High School, Burdett Junior College, and then joined the Army serving state-side in the Korean conflict as a Military Policeman at the Army Air National Guard Base in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. George had a successful career in sales in the food and consumer products industry, and later as a sales manager for the RT French Company, and its successor companies. A man of deep faith, Geo was active in the church and was a deacon at the Duxbury Baptist church. He rarely missed church on Sundays.

George talked fondly of his social interactions with the people in the food business. He genuinely liked people. He arranged his schedule to coach his boys in sports, and help his beloved wife Nancy with anything their disabled son Brian might need, which was often. He enjoyed attending his family's many sporting events.

After his formal work life, Geo began his second career working "fun" jobs at Marathon Sports in Norwell and at the Cycle Lodge in Pembroke. His circle of friends included people from the food business, bikers, runners, and church members. In his adult life, he lost close friends to cancer and decided to use his love of biking as a tool to raise money for Dana Farber as a rider in the Pan Mass Challenge (PMC). He rode the PMC, a 192 mile two day event, for 25 years and raised $165,000 for cancer research. Aside from his family, this was his proudest achievement.

The family wishes to say a special thank you to all the Cranberry hospice nurses and North River Home Care aids (truly angels on earth) who cared for him over the difficult last 10 months. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the PMC/Dana Farber or to Cranberry Hospice of Plymouth.

Calling hours will be on Tuesday November 25th from 4pm to 7:30pm at Shepherd Funeral Home in Kingston. A funeral service will be held at the Duxbury Baptist Church on Wednesday November 26th at 10am. Refreshments and a time of remembrance will be held in the basement of the church from 11am to 12pm. A private burial will be held at noon.
