George Anthony Kitchie

March 28, 1935 – February 12, 2026

George Anthony Kitchie, 90, of Bloomington, IN left us on the evening of February 12, 2026.

George was born in Hudson, New York in 1935 to Anthony and Margaret Kitchie of Ghent, NY. Anthony and Margaret were immigrants from Lithuania and settled in upstate New York and became dairy farmers. George's early life was spent on the family farm.

George met the love of his life, Carol Crouse, in Hudson, New York. They were married on September 7, 1957.

George graduated from Cornell University in Ithaca, New York with a B.S. in Agricultural Economics. After graduation, he served in the Army as a 1st Lieutenant and platoon leader.

Upon leaving the military, George's career path brought him to Indiana for a job with the Kroger Company as a Foreman/Plant Superintendent. After 6 years with Kroger, he took on new challenges with a sales position with Eli Lilly & Company (Elanco Products). His career continued to expand, and he moved into a Human Resources position with Eli Lilly. In 1989, George was asked to assist in the development of the Human Resources department for the merger of Dow Agrosciences and Elanco Products, where he continued for 10 years until his retirement. After retirement, he worked as a career consultant for Right Management Consultants in Indianapolis, IN. George truly had a gift for working with people and counseling employees in difficult situations.

George had deep faith and was very devoted to the Lord. He loved his wife beyond measure, and their marriage has been an example for their children and grandchildren. He loved to talk to his grandchildren about their lives and counsel them on job searches and interviews. Nothing gave him more joy than to be with family.

George was preceded in death by his parents, Anthony and Margaret Kitchie, sister Alice Summers, and his son Patrick Kitchie.

George is survived by his wife, Carol Kitchie and their two children Susan (Ken) Campbell, and Neil (Joan) Kitchie, grandchildren Dan (Holly) Campbell, Christine (Tom Norris) Campbell, Alex Kitchie, Laura (Nico) Giokaris, Ryan (Katherine) Kitchie, John Kitchie and Luke Kitchie. George has two great-grandchildren, Mia and Sophia.

Services are scheduled for Monday, February 23, 2026, at the Sacred Heart Chapel at the Mother of the Redeemer Retreat Center - 8212 West Hendricks Rd Bloomington, IN 47403 Visitation will be held in the Chapel at 11:00 am. Funeral Mass will be at 12:00 pm. Burial to follow at the Mother of the Redeemer Cemetery, at 1pm.

I didn't know Mr. Kitchie but say hail and farewell to a fellow Cornellian. What a great way to grow up -- on a dairy farm in the magnificent Hudson Valley. Having spent the best part of my youth visiting and working on a modest dairy farm in Delaware County, about 50 miles to the west, I can imagine what living on one in Columbia County might have been like. I know Cornell had a great department of Agricultural Economics. My condolences to the family. May you be comforted by happy memories.
