George Knox Obituary

George Wayne Knox "Wayne", a beloved member of the Amory community, passed away on October 4, 2025, at the age of 41. Born on February 7, 1984, in Columbus, MS, Wayne's journey through life was marked by an unwavering passion for justice, a deep love for his family, and an extraordinary dedication to service.

A proud Navy veteran, Wayne served for five years, harnessing skills that proved invaluable throughout his later career. He started his career in the furniture industry then worked for his father and uncle Paul at Scott and Sons and served as the Director of the Regional Museum in the city of Amory. Wayne's sense of duty extended beyond his professional pursuits; he was actively involved in the pandemic and disaster relief efforts, drawing upon his military training. His dedication to the well-being of others was exemplified by his role as a board member for the Amory food pantry, where he worked tirelessly to ensure that those in need had access to resources and support.

Wayne's educational journey began at Amory High School followed by Ole Miss, where he majored in Economics and History. His intelligence and eccentric personality made him a memorable figure to all who crossed his path. His passion for justice was matched only by his love and warmth toward family and friends. He was an accomplished musician and artist, with a creative spirit that flourished through his various hobbies.

A true adventurer at heart, Wayne embraced the world, traveling near and far as well as participating in numerous service trips. His love for travel was rivaled only by his affection for his three cherished cats, who brought him joy and companionship.

He leaves behind a loving family who will forever cherish his memory. Wayne is survived by his devoted parents, Larry and Veronica Knox; two sisters, Sarah (Dennis) Ellzey and Mattie Lian Knox; his grandparents, George and Lillie Knox, nieces and nephews, Isabella, Korban, and Evangeline Ellzey, and his beloved extended family. He was preceded in death by his brother, Daniel Larry Knox, and his grandfather, George M. Roza and his grandmother, Mattie Helen Roza.

A visitation for Wayne will be held at the First Baptist Church in Amory on October 7, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM, followed by a Celebration of Life at the same location from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM. He will then be laid to rest in Haughton Memorial Park.

Wayne Knox's legacy of compassion, creativity, and commitment to community will continue to resonate with all those who were fortunate enough to know him. He will be greatly missed and fondly remembered by his family, friends, and the countless lives he touched throughout his remarkable journey.

Memorials and Donations can be made to Gideons International, P.O. Box 107 Aberdeen, MS, Friends Of Amory Regional Museum, 60072 Chickasaw Drive Amory, MS, and Amory Animal Resource Center.
