Dr. George Delansone Luckey, 78, of Florence, passed away on Thursday, August 21, 2025.
Born February 25, 1947, in Nashville, TN, he was the son of Dr. Carl Freeman Luckey and Ann Colvin Luckey. In 1950, his family moved to Florence, AL, where he spent his childhood. In 1965, he returned to Nashville and attended Vanderbilt University for his undergraduate studies.
In 1971, he entered active service with the U.S. Army and proudly served for three years during the Vietnam War, first stationed at Fort Riley, Kansas, and then in Germany. Following his Army service, he pursued a career in medicine at the University of South Alabama Fredrick P. Whiddon College of Medicine, receiving his Doctor of Medicine degree in 1979.
In 1983, he returned to Florence and dedicated his life to raising a family and caring for his patients. He practiced family medicine for more than 45 years and was a "Fellow" of the American Academy of Family Practice (FAAFP) in recognition of extensive service, contributions, and professional growth in Family Medicine. A kind soul, he most enjoyed helping others. He was known for his compassion, understanding nature, humble character, and left a positive impression on everyone he met.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Carl F. Luckey Jr., and his son, Arthur Luckey. He is survived by his daughter, Elizabeth Luckey, and his sister-in-law, Dr. Mary Frances Werner-Luckey.
His funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 30, at 1:00 p.m. at Trinity Episcopal Church, Florence, AL.
