George was born in Bellville, Ohio on April 1, 1928, to his parents Carl and Mary McFerren who had a hatchery on their farm outside Bellville. His mother Mary died from a hunting accident when George was 13 years old. His father died tragically in motor vehicle accident in 1975 in Chillicothe, Ohio.
George attended Bellville High School where he was active in basketball. George was best known in his young years for his passion for motorcycles, trucks, and later in life guns.
George worked at Mansfield Tire & Rubber Company "The Tire" for over 30 years until the company closed its doors in 1979. Because of his knowledge of cars and engines he went to work at the golf course in Bellville as a maintenance man.
George was married to Joann McQuillen for ten years and had four children – Sherry, Debra "Sam", George, Jr., and Patrick. Sherry lives in Ocala, FL close to her three children and eleven grandchildren. Debra is a retired realtor, and lives with her husband, Jim, in Osprey, FL. They visit Ohio often to see her daughter's family, four grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. George, Jr lives in Weymouth, MA close to his daughter. Dr. Patrick lives in Worthington, OH with his wife Karen and spends time with his three children and their growing families (six grandchildren) as often as possible.
George will be remembered for his challenging car driving lessons. Debby remembers her dad teaching her to parallel park in front of their Bellville home on Bell Street between Jean's new Mercury and his beloved Ford pickup truck! Or learning how to drive in the snow, by doing "donuts" in an icy parking lot to see how a car handles on ice.
George loved his truck (always a Ford); motorcycles (BSA) and "mud runs"; camping at Long Lake or Wally's. He even built his first camper for his truck. George made sure his truck's license plate was always WP888 except one year when someone beat him to the number – he was not happy!
George's remains will be laid to rest next to his late wife Eleanor Jean (Rose) McFerren at Bellville Cemetery. A graveside service will be held at a later date (to be determined).
