George Lee Nelson was born June 12, 1947, in Murfreesboro, TN to the late Tommy and Lorene Nelson. He departed this earthly life on Saturday, May 18, 2024. He was one of fifteen children and attended Christiana School. George was employed at Samsonite, Nissan, Baymount Inn, Store Opening Solution and retired from Blackman Middle School.

George was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Martha, Johnny, Richard, Sara, Jerry, Judy and Marion Nelson. 

George is survived by his devoted wife of almost 41 years, Vanessa Wade Nelson; one daughter, Beatrice Nelson; three sons, Anthony (Katherine) Nelson, Carlos (Katherine) Greene and Roger Greene; one sister, Jimmie Gertrude Shannon; five brothers, Tommy (Betty) Nelson, William (Marie) Nelson, Albert (Judy) Nelson, Clarence (Debra) Nelson and Pleas Nelson; devoted grandsons, Demar Cheers and Deon Thompson; a total of eight grandchildren; a close cousin, Charles Crockett, along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

George was baptized at the former Johnson Road Church of Christ which is now Hwy 231 Church of Christ. He also attended Murfreesboro Inner City Ministry Church of Christ. George was very faithful and active in his Christian walk. He loved working in the hayfields with his three brothers, Tommy, William and Clarence. Working with them was his passion.

George was a very good cook and enjoyed sharing his food with the community. It was nothing for George to have a fish fry at the house to feed over hundreds of people. He really loved sharing what he had with others. He was also known for his delicious sweet potatoes. George also had a passion for working on the farm with his cows, chickens and goats. Sometimes, It would call him farmer John. He loved picking with people just to make them laugh. That was the type of person he was. Working with teenagers, taking them to youth retreats, hayrides, having them over to the house was another passion of his. He was definitely a people person. If you ever heard him laugh, you would recognize his laugh because it was so unique. In the past, he loved to bowl and was a great bowler. The important things I can say about George is he loved his wife and family. He loved driving the Inner City Ministry buses, picking up children, taking them to bible class and simply loved people. But the most important thing I can say about Geoge is that he loved the Lord.
