George Nicks Obituary
George was a Coal Miner for Consolidated Coal and Inland Steel.
George was a former Grand Master at the Herrin Masonic Lodge and member of the Williamson County Shriners and York Rites.
George formerly attended the Herrin First Christian Church.
George was born March 19, 1940 in Johnston City, IL to George E. and Ella Mae (Payne) Nicks.
George married Patricia J. Deskines on October 10, 2001 in Marion, IL. She survives him at their home in Christopher, IL.
He is also survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Debra Lynn & Victor Schooly of Carterville, IL; son and daughter-in-law, Jeffrey Len & Melissa Nicks of Colombia, TN; 11 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; step-children, Patti Deskines of Freeman Spur, IL and Lynn Deskines of Milstat, IL; brother and sister-in-law, Jerry & Janet Nicks of Herrin, IL and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his two sons, Michael Laverne Nicks and Kevin Lee Nicks; his parents; and sister and brother-in-law, Shirley & Roger Allen.
Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 27, 2025 at Meredith-Waddell Funeral Home in Herrin with Rev. Don Colson officiating. Visitation will be 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Interment will be at Herrin City Cemetery in Herrin, IL.
