George O’Brien Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Montano-Shea Funeral Home - Winsted on Apr. 24, 2024.
COLEBROOK –
George T. "Obie" O'Brien, Jr., 79, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 23, 2024 from cancer. Born November 27, 1944 in Torrington; the son of the late George T. O'Brien, Sr., and Victoria (Perlak) O'Brien.
Obie lived in Winsted and California for a time and when he was 14 years old, hitchhiked back to the local area, because of his love for the country life. He lived in Colebrook for the last 30+ years. He worked for SKF for 38 years. Obie was an avid golfer and loved hunting, fishing and the outdoors.
He was a member of the Norfolk Trout Club and King of the Copper Party in the early 90's in Colebrook. He was also Chief of the Fire Police for many years. Most importantly, he was an active member of the Colebrook Volunteer Fire Department for over 30 years and fondly thought of them as his family.
The family would like to express their sincere thanks to Noble Horizons in Salisbury and the Visiting Nurse & Hospice of Litchfield Country for their kindness and compassionate support.
He is survived by his two sisters, Gracie (O'Brien) Britton and Janie O'Brien; many nieces, nephews, cousins and his fire department family in Colebrook. He was predeceased by his son, Donald O'Brien and siblings, Harry O'Brien, Lew Perlak, Marie (O'Brien) Lombrano-Duran and Mary Ann Kool.
Friends may call on Tuesday, April 30, 2024 at Montano-Shea Funeral Home, 922 Main Street, Winsted from 5 – 7 PM with a funeral service at 7 PM. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to: Colebrook Center Fire Company, PO Box 82, Colebrook, CT 06021. Visit an online guestbook at montano-shea.com.
