George Eugene O'Brien, of White Bear Lake, passed away peacefully at St. Therese Hospice on October 15, 2025.
He was born on August 17, 1933, in St. Paul, Minnesota. After being raised in West St. Paul, and graduating from Humboldt High School, he served his country in the United States Army where he was stationed in Germany, a time which he developed a strong sense of discipline and commitment that would define his character for the rest of his life. After his military service, he married Beverly, raised his three children and embarked on a fulfilling career with Northwestern Bell which later became AT & T.
He is preceded in death by beloved wife Beverly; parents Josephine and John; brothers Jack (Kathy), Thomas (Maryls), Dennis, Timothy, and Kevin; and step mother Rose.
He is survived by son George; daughters Karen (Scott Young) O'Brien and Kathleen (Todd) Hendricks; grandchildren, Matthew, Kelly (Jared), Ashley (Josh), Rachel (David), Bailey (Nick), Alexander, Maria, and Tyler; six great-grandchildren whom he was immensely proud of; and a sister in law Patricia.
In his younger years he enjoyed hunting and fishing, He loved the outdoors, enjoyed gardening, bird watching and spending time with his neighbors, especially Bev and Jerry Cunnien. He was also a lifelong fan of the MN Vikings and the MN Twins and often listened to the Twins games on the radio on his favorite backyard swing.
In retirement he spent a lot of time with his dog Ringo, who was a favorite of everyone and frequent visitor to his neighbors, Marilyn and Kurt Storsved. Their kindness for George and Ringo was immeasurable.
As we bid farewell to George O'Brien, we remember a man who was the epitome of kindness, wisdom, and humor. His presence enriched our lives, and his memory will continue to inspire us. George's journey on earth may have come to an end, but his spirit will forever remain a guiding light in the hearts of those who loved him. Today, we take comfort in knowing that George has found eternal rest in the loving embrace of our Lord, and we celebrate a life well-lived, a life that truly made a difference.
A Celebration of Life will be at 11 AM on April 20th, 2026 at St Pius X Catholic Church, 3878 Highland in White Bear Lake, MN. Internment Fort Snelling National Cemetery.
