George Olson Obituary
George Olson, 89, of Vermilion, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 23, 2025, at Lorain Estates following a lengthy illness.
He was born on May 5, 1936, in Lorain, OH, and had made Vermilion his home for more than 60 years.
George graduated from Lorain High School and went on to earn his bachelor’s degree in business administration from Defiance College. He built a long and dedicated career with U.S. Steel, serving as a supervisor for 33 years before retiring in 1991.
A true lover of the water, George found joy in boating, visiting lighthouses, and restoring and refinishing boats and old cars. He cherished his time on Lake Erie and especially enjoyed spending winters in Fort Myers, FL, where he embraced the sunshine, ocean air, and relaxed pace of life.
George is survived by his children, Lori Olson and Christopher (Connie) Olson; grandchildren, Katelyn (Cameron Davis) Olson, Sarah (Paul) Wansitler, and Dana (Marissa) Kaurich; great-grandchildren, Mila and Bristol Rae Davis, Addilyn Louise and Sophia Rose Wansitler, and Jude Kaurich; stepchildren, Michael (Jill) Marsh, John Marsh, and Monte (Trisha) Marsh; and many other cherished grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Frances Olson (2024); first wife, Elberta Rae Olson (1972); stepdaughter, Constance Parsley; parents, Oscar and Frances (née Witt) Olson; and brothers, Oscar Olson, Jr. and Sydney Olson.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, December 2, 2025 from 4:00 to 7 p.m. at the Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street, Vermilion, Ohio. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, December 3, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Elmwood Cemetery, Lorain.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Vermilion Historical Preservation Committee through Main Street Vermilion 685 Main Street, Vermilion, OH 44089.
