George Eugene Orr

     George Eugene Orr, 75, of Marion, passed away Thursday, May 23, 2024, at Mission Memorial Hospital in Asheville.

 

     George was born in Champaign, Illinois on May 1, 1949 to the late Dow Jacob Orr and Nancy Louise McFalls Orr. He was married to his wife of 53 years, Louise Effler Orr. George loved to fish and was a member of Trout Unlimited He was also a baseball fan and coach. He was known for his contagious smile and his excellent sense of humor. Whether he was sitting on the front porch in his rocking chair or sitting by a fire, George never knew a stranger. He was a good steward to nature. He loved his dogs, but most of all, George loved his family. They were the light of his life. 

 

     In addition to his parents, George was preceded in death by a son, Chad; three sisters, Joyce, Opal, and Linda; a niece, Jean; and a brother, Robert. 

 

     Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Louise Orr; three children, Ronnie, Andy, and Sara Orr; and two grandchildren, Drew and Eugene Orr. 

 

     A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, May 29, 2024, at the Chapel of Beam Funeral Service. Rev. Steve Bugenhagen will officiate. Burial will follow at McDowell Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m., prior to the service, at the funeral home.

 

     In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the family to assist with funeral expenses.
