George Daniel "Danny" Patterson, Sr., 73, passed away June 16, 2023 after a lengthy illness. Born on December 17, 1949, he was married to Donna Smith Patterson for 52 years. His parents were the late J.W. and Fannie Patterson. He was a member of the First Church of Clyattville. Danny was a Vietnam Veteran serving as a Navy SeaBee and in the Naval Reserves. He was a decorated soldier with 3 medals of honor and a Bronze star and a member of the DAV. He was a volunteer firefighter and worked as an EMT in Clyattville, for Coopers Garage in Hahira, Georgia, and for both Southern Railroad and Valdosta Southern Railroad of Clyattville. In Michigan, he had worked for Millwrights Local 1102. Danny was a hardworking man who never met a stranger.
Danny is survived by his wife Donna, children, Dana and Glenn Gibbs of Anchorage, AK, Deanna Turner, of Valdosta, Daphney Terrell, of Hahira, and Daniel, Jr. and Kathryn Patterson of Hahira. He is also survived by his precious grandchildren, Amy Nellis, of Adel, GA, Jacob Gibbs, of New York, NY, Gray, Dylan and Deen Patterson, all of Hahira, GA; his sisters and brothers-in-law, Barbara and Blake Pearce, of Valdosta, GA, Laura and Billy Spells, of Lake Park, GA; numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family. He was genuinely loved and cherished by his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents J.W. and Fannie Patterson, brother Eddie Patterson, sisters, Eva Canter, Jackie Miley, brother-in-law Charlie Miley, nephew Sonny Williamson, and a very precious granddaughter, Alissa Rae Terrell.
Danny loved his wife, grandchildren, and children deeply and unconditionally. The family would like to thank the church members who assisted Danny during church services and Wednesday night Prayer Service. The family would also like to thank Hospice of South Georgia, especially our incredible Nurse Miranda, for being wonderful, caring and professional, Amedisys Home Health, and Home Instead.
Danny's greatest wish was to remain at home to be with his wife, his children, and grandchildren. The VA made that possible with at home care and a wonderful group of Physicians who provided amazing care and support for him. Regina Faye, NP, was instrumental in securing Danny's ability to be cared for in the luxury of his comfortable home. The family would also like to thank all the doctors that took great care of him throughout his illness.
Funeral services with military honors will be held at 2pm on Wednesday, June 21, 2023 in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home. Pastor Aaron Kight will officiate. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 6-8pm at the funeral home.
Online condolences may be conveyed at www.mclanecares.com. Carson McLane Funeral Home is entrusted with the arrangements.
