In Loving Memory of George Richard Pesko
October 16, 1936 – July 17, 2025
George Richard Pesko, a dedicated father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away on July 17, 2025. Born in St. Joseph, Michigan, on October 16, 1936, George was the second of three sons born to Micheal and Dorothy Pesko. He was preceded in death by his brother Larry (2014) and is survived by his brother David.
George was married to the love of his life, Carlene Anderson, for 66 years. Together, they raised three children: Steve (Cheryl Motz), Cay (Mark Ernst), and Chris (Gina Litrenta). His legacy lives on through his seven grandchildren-Helen McManus (Gregory), Tabatha Waid, Phillip (Christine Worthington), Tara Panek (Nicolas), Andrew (Amber O'Dell), Sydney (Rachel Grossfeld), and Tyler (Kathryn Eck), step-grandchildren Jason Ernst (Tasha), Dave Ernst (Jess), Mike Ernst (Jordyn) Megan Cox (Matt).
Outside of work, George was a man of many passions: an avid golfer, model airplane builder, boater, fisherman, and enthusiastic football fan. He had a natural ability to make friends wherever he went and a deep commitment to helping others. This spirit of service was especially evident in Collier County, Florida, where he was an active member of the Knights of Columbus, operating as a Faithful Navigator in the fourth degree in St. Agnes in Naples.
George and Carlene raised their family in St. Joseph, MI, and Mossville, IL, later relocating to The Colony, TX, and retiring in Lake Whitney, TX. In his later years, they moved to
Naples, FL, to be closer to family. George spent his final 18 months at the Douglas T. Jacobson State Veterans Home in Port Charlotte, FL, where he was cherished by the residents and staff of the Alpha Wing.
Known for his wit and warmth, George had a few signature phrases that brought smiles to those around him. Whether it was a cheerful "Why sure!" in response to the obvious, a playful "Mother McCurdy's drawers" in exasperation, or singing "Zip-a-dee-doo-dah" while driving, George's personality was unforgettable.
George taught his family the satisfaction that comes from hard work, giving people the benefit of the doubt, and treating your neighbors and others like family.
A memorial service will be held at St Agnes Church on August 18th at 11:30 am, with lunch to follow. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations to a veterans' organization, such as Disabled American Veterans, Knights of Columbus charities, or a
charity of your choice in George's honor.
