George “Pete” William Lenker, Sr, age 88, of Mechanicsburg, died at home on Friday, August 23, 2024. Pete was born on Friday, March 6, 1936, in Mechanicsburg to the late George Nicol Lenker and Martha Mae (Roland) Lenker. Pete was the widower of Ruth Naomi (Harro) Lenker, whom he married on May 22, 1955, and who died on December 3, 2020. In addition to his parents and wife, Pete is preceded in death by his three children: Dorothy “Dottie” Traver, Judy Lenker, Richard Lenker; and his two sisters: Edna Deardorf, Ruth Young.
Pete’s survivors include his son: George Lenker, Jr. of Dillsburg; his five grandchildren: Tonya Traver of Lewisberry, Matthew Lenker and wife Amy of Gettysburg, Luke Lenker and wife Nicole of Mechanicsburg, April Lenker of Harrisburg, Tina Leinberger and husband Casey of Lewisberry; his nine great-grandchildren: Mackenzie Lenker, Dakota Lenker, Andrew Lenker, Blake Lenker, Chase Lenker, Ashlynne Lenker, Kylie Lenker, Jaxon Lenker, Kaiden Lenker, Emberlee Lenker and two great great grandchildren. He his also is survived by two brothers: David Lenker Sr. and significant other Deanna Kaufman of Mechanicsburg, Henry Lenker and wife Phyllis of York.
He was a founding member of Lisburn Community Fire Company and helped build their first fire truck. He also was a member of Williams Grove Historical Steam Engine Association.
All are welcome to join Pete’s family at his viewing on Friday, August 30, 2024 from 9:00 a.m. until time of service at 11:15 a.m. at Buhrig Funeral & Cremation, 37 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055; with celebrant George A. Spangler officiating. Pete’s family invites everyone to join them for a time of food and fellowship at Buhrig’s Gathering Place (next to the funeral home) immediately following the service. Burial will follow the reception in Crossroads Cemetery in Lewisberry.
