George Pollitz Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by McDonald Funeral Home & Cremation Services - Picayune on Jan. 6, 2026.
George A. Pollitz, III, age 94, of Picayune, Mississippi, passed away on Saturday, January 3, 2026.
A native of Biloxi, Mississippi, George spent his life fixing things. If it was broken, he could fix it. If it wasn't broken, he could still probably improve it. He didn't believe in sitting still, wasting time, or calling someone else to do a job he could do himself. He often said that as long as he could make sawdust, it was a good day-a simple truth that captured his love for working with his hands, especially in "Paw's Shed", where his passion truly lived.
George retired from L.O. Crosby Memorial Hospital after 33 years of dedicated service as Laboratory Director and then worked an additional eight years at Stennis Medical Department. Beyond his career, he poured himself into his family and community-serving through scouting and band boosters, repairing bicycles for neighborhood kids, and remaining actively involved with the University of Southern Mississippi Alumni Association, where he was inducted into the USM Alumni Hall of Fame in 1987. George was also a faithful member of Heaven Bound Christian Fellowship. His faith was steady and lived out more in action than in words. He showed love by showing up, helping out, and making sure things were handled-whether you asked or not.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George A. Pollitz, Jr. and Rose Cefalu Pollitz; by his beloved aunt, Elma Pollitz, who lovingly raised him; and by his wife of 68 years, Mary Robson Pollitz-the love of his life. Anyone who knew George knows he had been ready to see her again for a long time.
Left to cherish his memory are his sons, George A. (Debbie) Pollitz, IV, and Don (Maureen) Pollitz; his daughter, Beverly Pollitz Thigpen; his grandchildren Allen Pollitz, V; Lance (Kelly) Pollitz; Andrew (Elisha) Pollitz; Robson (Krystal) Pollitz; Don (Anna) Pollitz, Jr.; Mary (Devan) Pollitz; Sarah (Drew) Thigpen-Walters; and James Thigpen; along with 17 great-grandchildren who knew him as steady, dependable, and always exactly where he was supposed to be.
George had a sense of humor that showed up often - usually mid-story, mid-sentence, and sometimes mid-lesson. He loved to talk, and if you sat down long enough, you were going to hear a story, get some advice, and probably learn something whether you asked to or not.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 10, 2026, at 12:00 p.m. at McDonald Funeral Home Chapel, with visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow at New Palestine Cemetery. Pastor Rob Davidson will officiate.
"George believed most problems could be solved with the right tool, enough time, and a jumpsuit."
He lived a life of purpose, service, and steady love-and it was a life well lived.
In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to Heaven Bound Christian Fellowship, 26 Garden District Place, Picayune, MS 39466.
