Richard Sanderson Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by McDonald Funeral Home & Cremation Services - Picayune on Feb. 3, 2026.
On February 3, 2026, Richard Sanderson was called to join the Angels above. Richard began his journey on September 9, 1943 in Picayune, MS.

As Richard is united with the loved ones that passed before him, he leaves behind in each of us, pieces of his love, his devotion to his family, his knowledge, and memories that will forever be cherished. It is with many tears, we begin now to celebrate the time we were blessed to have Richard in our lives. All the joy, the memories, the laughter, the talks and advice, the knowledge he shared, his loyalty and mostly the love he gave, will carry on forever.

Richard worked offshore, as a tile setter, and as a greeter at Walmart. He was a member of Alcoholics Anonymous for over 43 years, where he sponsored many, many people for long term sponsorships. He helped many people along their journey during these times.

Richard loved to coon hunt when he was younger, and stayed in touch with many of his friends later in life. He was an amazing husband, daddy, and grandpa. Richard made up songs for the granddaughters that he sang to them throughout their lives, and they were rarely told "no" by him for any reason. He recently discovered a great love for Bucee's and their BBQ brisket sandwich. Richard attended church at Harmony Baptist with his mom for many years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard Calvin Sanderson and Edith Davis Sanderson; his wife of 48 years, Maryjane Sanderson; and his sons, Tim Bass and Zach Sanderson.

Left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Tassy (Dustin) Phillips; his 5 grandchildren, Riley Evans, Bailey Trott, Hailey (Brett) Dailey, Jeremy (Renee Tew) Bass, and Zach Sanderson, Jr.; and his several great grandchildren.

Arrangements are under the direction of McDonald Funeral Home.
