Orene Mitchell

Funeral Services for Orene Mitchell, age 88, of Picayune, MS, who passed away Monday, March 16, 2026, will be held, Tuesday March 24, 2026 at 11:00 am at McDonald Funeral Home Chapel.

Visitation will be Tuesday, March 24, 2026 from 9:00 am until 11:00 am at McDonald Funeral Home.

Burial will follow at Biloxi National Cemetery under the direction of McDonald Funeral Home.

Bro. Brad Heffner will officiate the service.

A native of Picayune, MS, she was a homemaker and a member of House of Refuge. Orene was a devout Christian, she read her Bible every day faithfully. She was very giving, loved cooking for her family and friends and loved being outside on her patio. She didn't meet a stranger, had a wonderful personality and loved to laugh. Orene was a wonderful mother, grandmother, sister and friend who will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Eugene Spence and Hattie Frazier Spence; husband of 16 years, Willie Alexander; husband of 43 years, James A. Mitchell; siblings, Dorothy Quigley, Bobbie Boutwell, Josephine Faciane, William Spence and Virginia Loveless; grandsons, Jeremy Spiers, Jacob McLemore.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Carolyn (Randy) Lee, Cynthia Alexander Latham, Jamie (Lewis) Webb, Cheryl (Eldridge) Palmer; grandchildren, Ryan (Kayla) Lee, Reid (Jenna) Lee, Jade (Zach) Roussell, Tyler Mendoza, Emily Bathke, Melanie McLemore, Melissa (Tim) Lancaster; 19 great grandchildren, Andrew, Dacie, Rhyanna, Korban, Casen, Kensleigh, Blayke (Amber), Brenden, Brooke, Brantley, Makon, Presleigh, Whitley, Timmy, Joy, Liz, Elijah, Isaiah, Dean, Iris, Samantha, and Dillon; Grandchild, 1 great great grandchild, Blakeleigh; brother, Howard (Patsy) Spence, sister, Martha Pearson (Gary) Verdin.
